Who are we & WHAT IS A PRESBYTERY?
That is a question often asked by members of congregations. There is really no simple answer to that question, for a presbytery is many things:
THIS IS MISSION PRESBYTERY
A presbytery is a connectional council of congregations in a geographic area. The community we call Mission Presbytery is made up of 118 active congregations in Central and South Texas, which reflect the rich diversity of the region. Our congregations are spread from Copperas Cove in the north to Brownsville in the south, from Del Rio and Laredo in the west to Palacios, Collegeport and El Campo in the East. To strengthen our connections across such a vast region, we are organized in six regions: Austin, Corpus Christi, Hill Country, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio and Victoria. Our membership includes more than 300 Teaching Elders (Ministers) and 17,000 Ruling Elders and members. There's always room for more - come join us in mission and ministry!
It is a governing body with responsibilities for oversight of its teaching elders and churches.
It is a community of Presbyterian churches engaged in ministry and mission for our Lord.
We are part of the Synod of the Sun & The Presbyterian Church (USA)
Mission
As Mission Presbytery, we connect diverse leaders and congregations by providing opportunities for worship, learning, and service so that we can flourish through God's grace.
Vision
We live out our connection with intention, respect, support, and challenge so that 100% of our congregations and leaders are engaged in some way.
We search out strangers in our midst so everyone has a welcome seat in our presbytery.
We are a generous worshipping and welcoming presbytery, and others want to join us and learn from us because of the way we live out the Great Commandment.
